Report of Domestic Violence Leads to Arrest

WINCHESTER, Va. — The Winchester Police Department arrested a Winchester man Sunday evening following a domestic violence incident that resulted in a tactical response.
On July 26, 2026, at approximately 9:02 p.m., Winchester Police officers responded to the 300 block of Gray Avenue for a reported domestic violence incident. The investigation determined that the suspect, Chanz Doleman, was allegedly under the influence, threatened to kill a family member, and was believed to have access to a weapon inside the residence.
Due to the circumstances, the Winchester Police Department SWAT Team and a Frederick County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit responded to assist. Officers made numerous announcements directing Doleman to exit the residence and surrender peacefully. After he repeatedly refused to comply, non-lethal chemical munitions were deployed to ensure the safety of all involved.
Doleman exited the residence but became combative and actively resisted arrest, engaging in a physical struggle with officers. Officers safely took him into custody without serious injury. He was evaluated on scene by emergency medical personnel but refused examination and treatment. He was then transported to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center (NRADC).
In addition to a probation violation, Doleman has been charged with the following offenses:
- Assault and Battery Against a Family or Household Member (Va. Code § 18.2-57.2)
- Abduction/Kidnapping (Va. Code § 18.2-47)
- Obstruction of Justice by Force (Va. Code § 18.2-460)
- Obstruction of Justice by Threats (Va. Code § 18.2-460)
- Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer (Va. Code § 18.2-57)
- Destruction of Property (Va. Code § 18.2-137)
- Providing False Identification to Prevent Arrest (Va. Code § 18.2-186.3)
- Animal Cruelty (Va. Code § 3.2-6570)
The Winchester Police Department appreciates the assistance provided by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, Virginia State Police and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office during this incident. This remains an active investigation, and no additional information is available for release at this time.
