Junior Academy

The Junior Academy is for children ages 5-8 that live in the City of Winchester.

Sessions will take children through age-appropriate activities that mimic activities performed by recruits and police officers, including:

  • Obstacle course (training)
  • Tour of building
  • Mock briefing before a shift
  • Dispatching a call
  • Solving a crime (dusting for fingerprints)
  • Animal control (education and activity)

Session sizes are limited to 24 participants. A temporary waiting may be established but is not guaranteed; you will be notified with a confirmation email if your application is accepted or if your child is on the waiting list. Names will be pulled from the waiting list in order of application to fill spots in the event of a cancellation. If you are confirmed to participate and need to cancel, we ask that you PLEASE cancel at least 2 weeks ahead of your session date so that we can fill the vacancy.

Registration periods will close when the spots have been filled. Spots in the Academy will be opened to applicants in the City of Winchester before being opened to applicants outside city limits.

PLEASE NOTE: PARTICIPATING CHILDREN MUST BE POTTY TRAINED. If your child is not potty trained, please do NOT register for the Junior Academy.

Sessions are held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Timbrook Public Safety Center. Please arrive by 8:45 a.m. to allow enough time for participant check in. Parents are asked to drop off their children and return at 12:00 p.m. to enjoy an Academy graduation ceremony in which children will receive a badge and take a special oath. Refreshments will be provided.

Sessions will be held rain or shine. Due to security reasons, parents will not be permitted to stay with their children after drop-off/registration until 12:00 p.m.
