Volunteers in Policing  VIP Patch

The Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program was formed in 1998 by then Lieutenant William Griffith. The VIPs were formed to assist the Police Department with the many special activities and community events that were being performed by police officers. With the VIPs assisting or taking over these events it allows officers to perform other critical police duties.

Our VIPs make up a community of spirited, hard-working, and diverse group of people. The VIPs have been awarded numerous unit citations for their extensive number of volunteer hours. See the new VIP brochure here

The functions they perform include fingerprinting children, crime prevention, community service, security, handicap parking enforcement, crowd control, direct traffic, Downtown Winchester foot patrols, and assist with the Citizen Police Academy.
