Winchester Police respond to report of a suspicious bag on a resident’s porch


At 10:58 pm on Tuesday, October 31, the Winchester Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious bag appearing to contain bird seed and a KKK flyer on the front porch of a residence in the 400 block of South Stewart Street. While meeting with the resident, officers observed two other flyers in nearby yards, but since it was dark, officers were unable to observe any additional flyers in the area.


This morning, officers responded to a report of a bag found on the doorstep of a business in the first block of North Braddock Street. No other bags were found or reported in the North Braddock Street area.


Also this morning, the Winchester Police Department was made aware that more bags were found in the area of South Stewart Street on private property, sidewalks and public rights of way. As requested by the callers, officers responded, met with multiple residents and collected the materials.


In addition, officers responded to reports of bags being found on private property on Morgan Street and when checking the area, found another bag on West Piccadilly Street.


In total, the Winchester Police Department has collected 30 flyers since the initial call last night.


Littering is a violation of the Winchester City Code. The Winchester Police Department is requesting that anyone with information about who may be responsible for the littering to please call (540) 545-4704.
