Winchester Man Charged with Strangulation and Attempted Sexual Assault

On April 23, 2017 at approximately 8:10 p.m., Winchester Police Department (WPD) officers responded to the 900 block of Opequon Avenue for reports of an assault in progress.

The 51-year-old victim told police her estranged husband physically assaulted her and forced her onto the bed.  She was able to escape when a family member heard her screams and ran into the bedroom.  The victim had visible injuries to her hands and neck.

When officers arrived, they encountered the suspect, Abdulkahim Ali Ahmed Al Hababi, outside holding a large knife. Another family member, who also lives at the home, held the suspect at gunpoint until officers arrived.

Al Hababi, 54, of Winchester, is charged with attempted sexual assault and strangulation.  He was transported to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center and held without bond.
