Two armed robberies reported before daybreak

The Winchester Police Department (WPD) is investigating two armed robberies that occurred this morning. The first was reported at approximately 4:37 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in the 100 block of Wingate Drive, the second at approximately 7:00 a.m. at the 7-Eleven convenience store in the 700 block of North Loudoun Street.

The suspect in the Hilton Garden Inn robbery, described as a black male, entered the business and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect advised the clerk that he had a weapon, but did not display any. The clerk complied and gave the suspect cash from the register. A K-9 unit was dispatched to try to track the suspect, but the suspect was not found. No one was injured during the incident.

Similar reports were supplied by witnesses at the 7-Eleven robbery. The suspect is reported to have demanded money from the clerk, threatening the use of a weapon. No weapons were displayed, but the clerk did comply. Surveillance photographs show the suspect to be wearing a black and tan jacket with a ball-cap style hat that reads “MERCY.” These photographs may be found on the Winchester Police Department’s Facebook page (@WinchesterVAPD). The WPD is asking that anyone with information regarding the suspect contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 540-545-4704 or Crime Solvers at 540-665-TIPS(8477) to leave an anonymous tip.
