Three arrested in connection to escaped inmate

At approximately 7:28 p.m. on January 18, Winchester Police received a report that an escaped inmate from the Rappahannock Shenandoah Warren (RSW) Regional Jail was in the area of Apple Blossom Drive and Millwood Avenue. After a brief investigation and coordination with other law enforcement agencies, officers arrested the escaped inmate and three others closely involved in the incident.

Matthew Perry Michael, 36, an inmate at RSW, is charged with escaping jail and issuing threats of death. April Lyn McDaniel, 33, of Inwood, is charged with possession of a controlled substance. Albert Byrd, 42, of Gerrardstown, is charged with conspiracy, accessory, and aiding the escape of a prisoner. Courtney Rose Barrett, 21, of Hagerstown, is charged with possession of paraphernalia, supplying a false identification to law enforcement officers, conspiracy, accessory, and aiding the escape of a prisoner.

Officers arrested the suspects in a room at the Clarion Hotel, located at 711 Millwood Avenue, where drug paraphernalia and trace amounts of suspected crack cocaine were found.

The successful resolution of the incident was a mutual effort by the Winchester Police Department, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
