Suspect in yesterday's armed robberies in custody

The suspect in yesterday morning's armed robbery of the Hilton Garden Inn has been identified and taken into custody. James Edward Scott, 41, of Virginia, is being held without bond in Albemarle County. The Winchester Police Department (WPD) will seek additional charges against Scott for the robbery at 7-Eleven.

Scott was found after the WPD asked neighboring jurisdictions to be on the lookout (BOL) for a vehicle possibly involved in the robberies yesterday at the Hilton Garden Inn and 7-Eleven. Law enforcement officers in Albemarle County notified WPD at approximately 10:00 p.m. that they had located the vehicle described in the BOL and identified one of its occupants as James Edward Scott.

A search of Scott's vehicle led to the discovery of a hat that matched the description of the one worn by the suspect in the 7-Eleven robbery. Anyone with additional information regarding Scott or yesterday's robberies at 7-Eleven and the Hilton Garden Inn is asked to contact Crime Solvers at 540-665-TIPS or the Criminal Investigations Division at 540-545-4704.
