City man arrested for brandishing firearm

On October 15, 2017, at approximately 2:05 a.m., Winchester Police officers were dispatched to the area of South Cameron Street and Millwood Avenue for a report of an active fight. Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed a male with a handgun and heard one gunshot fired. Officers later arrested suspect Christian Elijah Martin, 19, of Winchester, for three charges of weapons violations.

Prior to his arrest, officers engaged in a short foot pursuit with Martin, later apprehending him at a residence in the 700 block of South Kent Street. The 9-mm hand gun used in the incident was retrieved by police near the intersection of Pall Mall and Cameron Streets, but no damage from the bullet was found as the gun had been fired into the air during the fight. It is unclear what the fight was concerning, and there is no evidence yet that the incident was related to last week’s incident in the same area. No injuries as a result of the fight or the gunfire have been reported.

Martin has been charged with reckless handling of a firearm, discharge of a firearm in public, and brandishing a firearm. He is being held at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center.
