Man witnessed theft of his own vehicle


On October 4, at approximately 1:35 p.m., officers with the Winchester Police Department responded to the 500 block of Armour Dale for a report of a stolen vehicle. At the scene, officers arrested suspect Craig Allen Martin, 28, of Winchester, on charges of grand larceny and driving with a suspended license.


The victim stated that he left his vehicle for scheduled maintenance with a business in the 2700 block of Valley Avenue before 7:30 a.m. that morning. As he drove down Valley Avenue that afternoon, the victim witnessed his vehicle being driven in the opposite direction. He then turned to follow the vehicle, which he claimed to be weaving through traffic. The victim stopped behind the stolen vehicle outside of a residence in the 500 block of Armour Dale as the suspect fled the vehicle and the property.


The suspect, identified as Craig Allen Martin, returned to the property while police were on scene to turn himself in. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center, where he has been placed on a $4,000 bond.
