On September 14, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Winchester Police arrested Byron Curry, 25, of New York, after he led officers on a foot chase from Woodland Avenue to Franklin Street and provided false identification.
Police responded to a parking lot in the 1100 block of Berryville Avenue where it was reported that a black male riding a bicycle was asking people for money. The previous day, officers had responded to the same location for a report of a strong-arm robbery. Officers made contact with the male as he rode his bicycle up Elm Street. During the course of contact, the officers requested his identification. The male told officers that he was 21-year-old Stephon Salmon after previously claiming that his birth year was 1994, which put his age at 23. After being told that he was being detained, Curry quickly turned and ran away from officers. The chase led to Franklin Street where Curry was apprehended.
Officers located a wallet on the male containing a New York driver's license issued to Stephon Salmon, 21. He was taken into custody and charged with obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, providing false identification to law enforcement, and misdemeanor eluding. The Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center later contacted police, advising them that the suspect had been identified as Byron Curry from his fingerprints taken at booking. Curry is being held without bond at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center and is awaiting extradition. He is wanted in New York for charges of felony robbery, probation violation, and possession of stolen property, and was served with a fugitive from justice warrant by the Winchester Police Department.
