Traffic stop results in narcotic and firearm seizure

On October 12, 2018 at approximately 12:45 a.m., Winchester Police (WPD) attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Millwood Avenue for suspicion of driving under the influence. When the Toyota passenger car stopped shortly after turning onto Front Royal Pike, officers were able to identify the driver, Krista Burgess, 21, of Front Royal and two male passengers. Officers were given consent to search the vehicle and found the following items:

  • 40 grams of suspected cocaine
  • 1 gram of suspected marijuana
  • Over $2,000 cash
  • An AK-47 pistol (reported stolen from a residence in Paw Paw, West Virginia)
  • A Taurus .40 caliber pistol

Burgess was released from the scene with a traffic warning. After a brief investigation, passenger Malik Davenport, 21, of Winchester, was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of marijuana. Passenger Azarius Sloane, 18, of Winchester, was arrested and charged with unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon (18.2-308) and receipt of stolen firearm (18.2-108.1).
