Street closures and route for I Can’t Breathe event and walk

On Friday, June 5, 2020, an ‘I Can’t Breathe’ event and walk, organized by community members, will be held in Old Town Winchester. To ensure the safety of event attendees and downtown visitors during this permitted event, the City is releasing information regarding the associated street closures and the planned route for the walk.

Boscawen Street between Indian Alley and Cameron Street will be closed on Friday, June 5 from 10 am-8 pm. The ‘I Can’t Breathe’ Walk will be held at various times throughout the day and will follow the below route. Walk participants will stay on sidewalks when not on the Loudoun Street Mall. No other road closures are expected.

  • 1840 Courthouse (Loudoun Street Mall, 20 N. Loudoun Street) to Cork Street
  • Cork Street to Cameron Street
  • Cameron Street to Piccadilly Street
  • Piccadilly Street to Loudoun Street
  • Loudoun Street to 1840 Courthouse

 

Parking

The entrance/exit gate at Court Square Autopark (corner of Boscawen and Cameron Streets) will be closed. Motorist will be required to enter and exit the garage from S. Kent Street.

 

Friday’s Trash Collection

Due to the community event and related street closures, Friday’s refuse collection schedule will occur two hours earlier (8 am instead of 10 am) in the following areas:

  • Cameron and Braddock Streets from Cork to Piccadilly
  • Piccadilly, Boscawen and Cork Streets from Cameron to Braddock
  • Loudoun Street Mall

Any area not listed above will be collected on the normal schedule (set trash curbside no later than 7:30 am on Friday, but not before 6 pm the night before).

 

WinTran

All WinTran (public transit) routes will be canceled on Friday, June 5 since all routes originate on Boscawen Street in Old Town Winchester.
