Massachusetts man wanted for murder taken into custody by Winchester Police

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on May 29, 2018, Winchester Police (WPD) conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Cork Street that led to the arrest of Eddy Almonte, 27, of Haverhill, MA. Almonte is the suspect in a fatal shooting incident that occurred in Haverhill on May 17, 2018.

Almonte was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Dispatch advised officers that Almonte had a full extradition warrant for murder from Massachusetts. The driver of the vehicle received a summons for not being licensed. One other passenger, identified as Almonte’s brother and a resident of Frederick County, was not charged.

Almonte was arrested in June 2016 for his involvement in a suspected gang-related shooting in Haverhill, MA. He was charged in Haverhill District Court with armed assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, unlawful possession of a firearm, and obstructing a police investigation. More information about his arrest and charges can be obtained from the Haverhill Police Department.

Almonte was taken into custody and transported to the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. He is charged as a fugitive from justice by the WPD and will be extradited to Massachusetts to face additional charges at a later date.
