On August 1, 2020, at 7:05 am, the Winchester Police Department (WPD) responded to a residence in the 300 block of Virginia Avenue for a juvenile male suffering from a single gunshot wound to the back and clavicle area. He was in the company of three other juvenile males, one of whom was providing emergency care to the victim. WPD officers took over care until EMS personnel from Winchester Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and immediately commenced an investigation with help from the WPD Criminal Investigations Division.
As a result of the investigation, a juvenile male has been charged with possession of a firearm by a juvenile, false report to law enforcement, and reckless handling of a firearm. He is being held at the Northwest Regional Juvenile Detention Center. The firearm was located, and the investigation is ongoing with additional charges pending. The juvenile victim is still being treated for his injuries, which are not life threatening.
