City woman charged with malicious wounding

On October 29 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Winchester Police officers responded to the Winchester Medical Center to speak with a 40 year-old woman who had been assaulted. The victim sustained substantial injuries to her face from reportedly being struck with a hammer. After the initial investigation, officers were able to locate the suspect, Abelina Gomez-Cajero, 44, of Winchester, and place her in custody without incident.

The victim reported to officers that she had been at a class earlier in the evening; she left the class and had dinner with a male colleague. Upon leaving the restaurant, the male’s wife, Gomez-Cajero, appeared in the back seat of his vehicle and began threatening the victim with a hammer. The male attempted to separate his wife from his friend, but Gomez-Cajero was able to strike the female in the face. Gomez-Cajero fled from the vehicle and the male took the female victim to the hospital.

Officers retrieved the hammer from the vehicle and obtained a warrant on Gomez-Cajero. At approximately 1:30 a.m., officers received information that Gomez-Cajero had been dropped off at a residence in the 500 block of N. Kent Street. She was transported to the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center where she was held without bond and charged with malicious wounding. The victim is still undergoing treatment at the Winchester Medical Center at the time of this release.
