City man charged with malicious wounding

On October 2 at approximately 10:50 am, Winchester Police officers were dispatched to a report of a stabbing in the 500 block of N. Cameron Street. Officers located a 56-year-old male victim outside a residence with lacerations to his abdomen and back. The suspect, 57-year-old Mark Pugliese, was located inside his residence where the incident occurred and was arrested for malicious wounding (§18.2-51).

Officers responded after a witness called 9-1-1 reporting the stabbing. Officers learned the victim was visiting another resident when Pugliese and the victim became engaged in a verbal altercation. Pugliese then retrieved a machete and began swinging it at the victim causing the lacerations. He was treated on scene by Winchester Fire and Rescue units, but declined receiving treatment at the hospital.

Pugliese was transported to the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
