Winchester man arrested following investigation into online cell phone ruse

On December 15, 2021, Winchester Police (WPD) arrested 31 year old Calvin Talbert of Winchester on two charges of grand larceny following the execution of a search warrant at his residence in the 2500 block of Wilson Blvd.  From December 5th through December 13th, the WPD responded to four incidents of cell phone thefts that occurred outside in the Wilson Blvd area after victims made arrangements to meet Talbert for the purpose of selling their cell phones.  In each incident, once the cell phone was in Talbert’s hand, he fled the area on foot without paying.

The investigation revealed that additional victims may have not reported incidents of theft.  Therefore, anyone who has information is asked to contact Detective Thurman at 540-545-4704.  The WPD encourages the community to utilize a cell phone kiosk or retailer for selling their cell phones.  If you do sell to someone through online publications, then meet in a public place.

Additional charges against Talbert are pending.  He was transported to the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center and held on a $1,500 bond.  Talbert
