Recent property destruction at JHHS not a targeted act

Two suspects have been arrested, and another is being questioned for the property destruction that occurred on the John Handley High School campus on April 11, 2023. Between the hours of 10:30 pm and midnight, damage was done to the school grounds and the building outside, but no entry into the historic building occurred. The total cost of the damage is still being assessed.

All three suspects reside in Stephens City, but this was not a targeted act on John Handley High School, their athletic teams, staff, or students. No evidence, found or perceived, indicates a potential threat to the school or school system.

"I am incredibly proud of this investigation," stated Patrol Captain Wally Stotlemyer. "Early the following morning, officers were notified of the damage and provided video footage from the school. Due to the swift action of school staff, our SRO, and investigators, within 36 hours of the crime, we identified the three involved suspects and placed charges. The cooperation and teamwork between all parties involved have been outstanding."
