Honor Guard

The primary mission of the Winchester Police Department Honor Guard is to represent the City of Winchester and the Winchester Police Department at funerals by conducting honor ceremonies for those who have been killed in the line of duty.

The Honor Guard, as directed by the Chief of Police or his designee, will conduct honor ceremonies at burial services for elected officials and city employees who die while employed with the City of Winchester or at retired officer’s funerals per the family’s request.

The Honor Guard will also make available, if able, a team to honor fallen officers killed in the line of duty from other Virginia departments.

The Honor Guard may also be asked to present colors at ceremonies or selected special events. These requests will be performed, if able, depending on the team’s availability.

The Winchester Police Department’s Honor Guard Team serves at the discretion of the Chief of Police or designee. This specially trained unit is comprised of officers within the department as a collateral duty assignment. The team trains on a regular basis to ensure the utmost professionalism during these special circumstances.
