Residents Reminded to Remove Snow from Sidewalks
Mother Nature has dumped more snow on the region and even more is expected to fall. The Winchester Police Department wants to remind residents of the city’s snow removal ordinance. The ordinance requires property owners or occupants to remove snow and ice from sidewalks that adjoin their property. If snow falls during the daytime, residents are responsible for clearing sidewalks within two hours after the precipitation has stopped falling. Residents have until 9 a.m. the following day after a nighttime snowfall. Those who do not comply with the ordinance may receive a notice from the police department. If the resident has not cleared the sidewalk within 24 hours of the notice, further action can be taken.
It is our goal to educate residents on the snow ordinance so that the city sidewalks remain a safe place for people to walk.
