Teen Citizen Police Academy

Next Academy: Coming Soon | 8:00am - 5:15pm

The Teen Citizen’s Academy provides students ages 13 – 17 with an inside look at local law enforcement operations and challenges. One of the goals of the Teen Citizen’s Academy is to develop positive relations between the police and youth through education. Another goal is to create a core of responsible, well-informed teenagers who have the potential to influence public opinion and dispel untruths about police practices and services. This also provides an opportunity to explore a possible career in law enforcement.

Participants in each session commit to meet for the day to explore various aspects of the department. All instructors are employees from within the department. Though the curriculum and teaching methods are similar to the traditional police academy, the Teen Citizen’s Academy is not designed to train attendees as police officers or vigilantes.

Attendees are encouraged to ask questions, express ideas, and offer suggestions. The class size is limited to twenty-five participants.
