CHIEF OF POLICE
Chief Kevin Sanzenbacher
As the Chief of the Winchester Police Department, I would like to welcome you to our web page. I am delighted to be associated with a department with such a long and proud history of serving the citizens of Winchester. I want to share my vision with you about the direction we will take in the future.
First, we are dedicated to becoming one the of the best police departments in the country. To that end employees will be undertaking aggressive training and exercises to insure we are prepared to deal with any situation with which we may be confronted. In 2009 we became an accredited law enforcement agency through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission and have developed the Frederick County/Winchester Law Enforcement Foundation. The Foundation is designed to provide us with expert guidance and support.
We will become increasing involved in working in the community, especially with our Community Resources Team. We have partnered with the City Office of Zoning to develop techniques to assist us in tracking community problems. We now have officers who are cross-trained and authorized to take both police and zoning enforcement in order to deal with issues such as overcrowding and blighted housing. Our objective is to identify issues early so we may intervene before they can impact on the quality of life in the community. Our goal is to make Winchester an even better and safer place to work, play and live, and to support the Winchester City mission of making this, “The Community of Choice”.
We will partner with other City agencies and the private sector to tackle problems and develop long-term solutions surrounding youth activity. In 2010, we hope to establish a youth center in a building very close to our headquarters. Our vision is- this center will become a focal point for police/ youth interaction to assist us in providing quality role models and mentors to youth in the community.
Thank you for visiting our website. In browsing through it, you can learn about the organization of our department; you can read about our specialized units, and volunteer opportunities. You can also link to Crime Reports.com to view crime activity in the City. I think you will see that our neighborhoods are safe places to work and play.
Please remember, this is an interactive site. You can read about what the agency does, but you can also reach out to us, and I encourage you to do so.
