Whether through a headset or over the radio, the dispatcher serves as an emergency support system and the voice of help for people who are injured, in danger, or in crisis. Their commitment and service touches the lives of countless people in the City of Winchester.
The Timbrook Public Safety Center serves as the consistent point for dispatching police, fire, and EMS response. In addition to answering emergency calls, Emergency Communications Specialists also make contact with family members, towing services, and public works departments; activate weather alerts; and handle call-outs for specialized response teams such as the Crisis Negotiations Team and SWAT team.
In the last year these employees have helped in saving lives, apprehending criminals, and protecting the residents of the City of Winchester by answering close to 203,000 calls with 21,000 of those calls being 9-1-1 calls.
Theirs is a job that requires working long hours, holiday, and weekends. However, this career allows a person the opportunity to make a difference everyday. These professionals make the difference between life and death in many instances. 9-1-1 dispatchers are the true “first” responders in an emergency.
During this week please take the time to stop and show appreciation to the Emergency Communications Specialists for all of the hard work that they do on a daily basis.
Here is a list of the professionals that work in the Emergency Communications Center and the Timbrook Public Safety Center:
The Winchester Police Department would like to say, “Thank You for all that you do.”
